When Jeff and I first spoke about the possibility of a Watershed commission in the field of authentic liturgical music that would be a meaningful resource for the Church, he responded immediately with an indication that he wished to work on the Psalms. They are in a privileged way the prayer of the Church so his decision struck us as particularly Providential. These are a free educational resource. We are not a publisher seeking to profit off of them as a commercial venture. We are not charging anyone in any way for this educational resource that is intended to help Church musicians in their ministry. |
Alas, in the States we have been saddened to have to witness a ‘money changers in the temple’ mentality with regard to contemporary music being forced upon the faithful at Church that has little rooting in anything authentically liturgical or sublime; the people of God suffer while an exclusive few are remunerated for their commercial acoustic experimentations. It truly does give grave scandal, and saddens many hearts. However, rather than curse the darkness or be negative about so many of the current liturgical problems, our hope is to do something positive and to give good example. This is an educational work undertaken in charity, amor caritas.
Watershed is a group of artists specializing in the creative media. We are a 501(c)(3) public charity committed to the arts, culture and religion. We are supported by the kindness of generous souls who through donations enable us to collaborate with talented artists in a range of fields to do something beautiful for the Lord. Our undertakings range from documentary films to creative short films and some features in initial development to audio recording work and spoken word productions as well as work in the visual arts. Jeff Ostrowski is the first liturgical musician working with Watershed. It has been our great delight and honor to work with him as a collaborator. He is tireless in his generous commitment to doing something beautiful, holy and beneficial for the universal Church in terms of her liturgical life. We look forward not only to the expansion of the Chabanel Psalms, but also other additional work from Jeff in terms of future composition projects and ongoing recording work with the Morales Consortium. We hope you enjoy the Chabanel Psalms. — Dr. Daniel Varholy |
