Hear an audio mp3 file illustrating the multiple harmonizations
given for each Chabanel Psalm refrain

The theory behind the Chabanel Responsorial Psalm project is that one can "clothe" a simple refrain with beautiful harmonies.

One of the many unique things about the Chabanel Psalms is that, for each Responsorial Psalm refrain, multiple harmonizations are given. Sometimes, as many as fourteen harmonizations are provided.

Below, you will hear an example of this, as a simple Alleluia is sung with no fewer than eight different refrains. For the record, the composer's favorite is "version G."

This is also an example of what the Chabanel Psalms sound like when sung a cappella.

(Although notated for organ and cantor, all of the Chabanel Psalms sound good SATB.)

To Thee, O Lord, I lift up my soul (Chabanel Psalm based on same melody)
